Data residency, in practice, means being able to prove that customer data and every service that processes the data is within a defined geographic boundary.
During an AI agent interaction, if transcription, model inference, safeguards, storage, logging, or analytics requires processing data that operates outside the required region, the enterprise can no longer prove whether the data remained in the region, putting its regulatory and contractual obligations at risk.
Once AI agents are live, fixing this risk requires rerouting data flows, replacing providers, or re-architecting the deployment while under pressure from a customer or regulator. The Parloa Zones architecture separates the Parloa platform into two parts: The control plane manages configuration (agent building, phone numbers, and channels) while the data plane handles runtime activity (live calls and conversations). The platform in each region receives its configuration from the control plane and then runs independently within that region, allowing customer data and transcripts to remain in a specific country as needed.
